The “Principles of Movement” Seminar by Polestar® Pilates is an excellent starting point for those embarking on a personal journey of discovery and embodiment. This course will enhance your ability to analyze movement, address dysfunction, and design or adapt exercise programs tailored to individual client needs and capabilities. The six core movement principles will serve as a solid foundation for working with clients—from movement analysis to instruction and guiding them toward a healthier life.
This seminar is ideal for:
– Healthcare professionals
– Sports coaches
– Physical therapists
– Elite athletes
You will gain access to a new level of knowledge grounded in the latest research, along with practical tools for achieving effective and safe results in your work.
The course is also highly recommended for movement enthusiasts and those simply interested in understanding their bodies better. It offers valuable insights into the factors that influence health, performance, and overall well-being.
What does the course cover?
– The history and evolution of the Pilates method
– The fundamental principles of Polestar® Pilates
– The theory and practice of movement control
– Essential foundations in anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and arthrokinematics.
A significant portion of the course focuses on neuromuscular control of movement—how the nervous system gathers and processes external and internal information, and activates the muscles needed for specific motor tasks. Much of this activity occurs automatically, without conscious input. As a result, when motor skills are impaired, self-correction becomes difficult and often requires support from movement or health professionals.
Seminar Details:
– Led in English by Dr. Brent Anderson, founder and president of Polestar® Pilates, osteopath and orthopedic specialist
– All participants receive course materials in PDF format (in English or Lithuanian, based on preference)
Upon successful completion of the seminar and passing the test, participants will receive a Polestar® Pilates Certificate of Completion (USA)
Principle 1: Breathing
This segment introduces the principle of breathing, grounded in anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and various breathing techniques.
Principle 2: Axial Elongation and Core Control
Axial elongation and core control provide the body with optimal alignment to enhance movement efficiency. This segment explores the concept in greater depth and its practical application.
Principle 3: Spinal Articulation
Spinal mobility is essential for efficient movement. This principle explores how the spine moves, its anatomy, and how spinal articulation is applied in Pilates practice.
Principle 4: Head, Neck, and Shoulder Organization
The alignment of the head, neck, and shoulders plays a key role in maintaining proper body posture. This segment examines the principle from a scientific perspective and how it integrates into movement.
Principle 5: Alignment and Weight-Bearing of the Extremities
Proper alignment is critical for effectively supporting the weight of the upper and lower limbs. You’ll explore this principle through the lenses of biomechanics, anatomy, and functional movement.
Principle 6: Movement Integration
Movement integration involves understanding the body as a whole to achieve optimal movement patterns. This final segment concludes with the science behind the concept and the integration of all previous principles.
