POLESTAR PILATES FOUNDER

DR. BRENT ANDERSON

Polestar Pilates was founded by Brent Anderson, a Doctor of Physical Therapy with over 30 years of experience in rehabilitation and movement science. He passionately believes in the power of positive movement experiences to change lives.

Early in his career as a physiotherapist, Brent discovered the effectiveness of the mind-body method developed by Joseph Pilates in speeding up the rehabilitation process. This early experience inspired him to develop a unique programme that combines traditional rehabilitation with the principles of mindful Pilates movement. This approach became the basis for Polestar’s evidence-based Pilates teacher training programme. To further the scientific underpinning of the Pilates method, Brent obtained his PhD by conducting research into the effects of the Pilates method on people suffering from chronic back pain. The study looked not only at physical changes, but also at psycho-emotional well-being and quality of life.

Brent is also the creator and host of the podcast The Pilates Hour. In it, he analyses a variety of clinical cases and invites experts from different fields to discuss topics in movement science. Brent is currently a member of the St. Brent is an Associate Professor in the Health Sciences Program at St. Augustine University in Miami, Florida, USA. He also teaches at the University of Miami, the University of Southern California and New York University, where he is an active contributor to physical therapy programs. In addition to his academic and clinical activities, Brent is actively involved as a consultant with international hospitals, universities and wellness organisations. He is a passionate speaker and is frequently invited to lecture at health conferences and forums around the world.Brent has always been closely involved in the community, volunteering for a wide range of organisations, boards and faith communities, driven by a desire to change the world – one person at a time.
